What is Zero Waste?

Wikipedia defines Zero Waste as "a philosophy that encourages the redesign of resource life cycles so that all products are reused. Any trash sent to landfills is minimal. The process recommended is one similar to the way that resources are in nature."

I define it as reducing my impact on the world as much as possible. This involves: not producing garbage, focusing on experiences rather than stuff, and sharing the idea of this way of life with others.

Yes, it's a real thing. There are people in this world living without disposable items, and believe it or not, it is possible. For proof, I suggest visiting Bae Johnson at www.zerowastehome.blogspot.com

When I first learned about this philosophy, I immediately shut it down. It seems impossible--too hard to even try. I was intrigued by the idea though. The more I read, the more I realized it is more than possible to live a life without garbage, in fact I'd prefer a life without garbage, and that idea has pushed me to share my story from the beginning.

To me, zero waste is all about baby steps. Baby steps that you can start making at any time you wish. It's only a matter of deciding that it's worth it.
